Our anti-wrinkle treatment involves injecting Botulinum Type A a naturally derived protein into certain areas of the face. Botulinum is more commonly known as Botox and acts upon nerve endings to reduce the action of these nerves and thereby the muscles which they supply. When used cosmetically it reduces the strength of the muscles of the face that cause the tell-tale lines that come with age. The most common areas of the face are frown lines, crows’ feet at the side of the eyes and the horizontal lines that run across the forehead. Dr Hennessy clinics always tailor the anti-wrinkle treatment to the individual but overall a more ‘natural’ look is achieved by precise dosing to prevent a ‘frozen’ appearance. This Botox treatment can also be used to prevent drooping of the eyebrows that are starting to become hooded with age.
What is the anti-wrinkle treatment procedure?
The anti-wrinkle treatment is injected with a fine needle into specific muscles. Botox results can take 5-7 days to be seen and over the following months, results can become even more apparent. When it comes to aftercare for Botox, it’s important you do not rub the treated area. This means during the hours following your treatment, you should not have any beauty facial treatments, power showers to the face or participate in vigorous exercise where you might need to wipe away perspiration. This is important in allowing the botulinum to remain at the injection site and not to be accidentally moved to another area i.e. the eyes. During your consultation, you will be given more information about how to prepare for your treatment and the aftercare which will be reiterated when you have the procedure.
How long does the anti wrinkle treatment last?
The effects of all anti wrinkle injections are temporary and last from 3-4 months. As muscle action gradually returns, the lines and wrinkles begin to re-appear and wrinkles need to be re-treated. The lines and wrinkles often appear less severe with time because the muscles are being trained to relax. Botox has been used in a range of medical conditions and has been proven to be a very safe and effective procedure.
