Gummy Smile Botox

These injections are used to reduce the activity of the muscle that elevates the upper lip, thus lessening the ‘gummy smile’

If you feel that when you smile you show too much of your gum, or that your gums are too prominent when you smile, you have come to the right place. This is often referred to as a ‘gummy smile’ and is caused by a hyperactive muscle that elevates the upper lip. This can be aggravated further by a thin upper lip which can contribute to exposing even more of the upper gum. Here at Dr Hennessy’s Clinics, we offer Gummy Smile Botox which involves simply and effectively correcting the area with Botulinum (also known as Botox). These injections are used to reduce the activity of the muscle that elevates the upper lip, thus lessening the ‘gummy smile’.

What is the Gummy Smile Botox treatment?

We offer free consultations for all of our treatments where we can discuss your specific needs and wants from your treatment in more detail. However, in general, Gummy Smile Botox involves injecting a small amount of Botox into both sides of the junction of the nostril and nose to mouth fold to weaken the muscles. The procedure will take about 10 minutes.

After your treatment you should expect to see an improvement within 4 to 7 days when the elevation of the upper lip will gradually become less and less. With time the results should become more prominent and you can expect to see the full results around 2 weeks after the treatment.

Is Botox safe?

Botox treatment has been used safely for over 40 years in a range of medical conditions, including cerebral palsy. Like most medical procedures, there are some potential risks to be aware of although they are rare, during our consultation we will discuss any contraindications with you.
