Azzalure® by Galderma is used as a local muscle relaxant for aesthetic purposes. Azzalure® is the European Union member states’ version of Dysport. The most common use in aesthetics for this is to improve the appearance of lines and wrinkles on the face. This is an effective treatment for moderate to severe frown lines (glabellar lines) and crow’s feet lines (lateral canthal lines).
Much like many cosmetic procedures, Azzalure® is injected into the skin by a medical, licensed professional. Azzalure® is a neurotoxin that gathers the junction between the muscles and nerves and prevents the release of acetylcholine. This is a chemical neurotransmitter which makes the nerves move, allowing movement in the face. Azzalure® causes these muscles to relax, preventing the chance of wrinkles and reducing the appearance if there is any there.
Azzalure® is a medically proven treatment, however anyone under the age of 18 will not be administered, or anyone who is pregnant or breastfeeding. Individuals wanting to have Azzalure® should speak to their doctor about any possible side effects to make sure they know the risks and if there are any health conditions that could prevent them from getting the treatment.
Much like Botox, Azzalure® does not show results immediately. However, patience will begin to see results within 2 – 6 days of treatment. Then around 2 weeks later the results will be at their optimal effectiveness. Azzalure® treatment can last 3-5 months, depending on the individual and their skin, kind of wrinkles, age and lifestyle. This treatment can be repeated as often as seems necessary.
It is also very important that you do not lie down for at least two hours after you receive Azzalure® treatment, and to avoid exercise immediately after treatment. This is because you could increase your risk of migration within the face. Dr Hennessy recommends patients to contract the muscle that has been treated. For example, it is a good idea to try looking angry if you had a frown treatment.
